Where does this Shungite Specimen originate?
Shungite was originally discovered in Russia around the town of Shunga in the Republic of Karelia. More recently some deposits have been found in Michigan, Austria, India and the Congo.

What is Shungite?
Shungite is a mineral like material that does not crystallise and is referred to as a Mineraloid. Shungite can be made up of Carbon (Graphite) up to 98% by weight. The higher the % of Carbon the higher grade of Shungite that you have. It is in formed deep underground in volcanic areas although some deposits are extruded towards the surface.
The particular composition and structure of Shungite is extraordinary and is the reason why it has scientifically proven anti-bacterial, purification and electrical characteristics that were most recently explored by Kroto, Smalley and Curl in the 1990’s for which they were awarded the Noble Prize for Chemistry in 1996. The carbon matrix in Shungite has formed into very rare fullerenes which had previously only been artificially created in laboratories.
