Fuchsite is a common mineral in many parts of the world. It is found in North America, parts of South America, South Africa, India and Eastern Europe. The combination with Ruby is found anywhere that Rubies can be found so often in Brazil, Myanmar, Nepal, Norway, South Africa and Vietnam. Most of the Ruby Fuchsite tends to come from India.

What is Ruby Fuchsite?
Fuchsite is a form of Muscovite and part of the Mica family. Sometimes called Green Muscovite or Chrome Mica. It is the Chromium in the mineral that results in the green colouration. Fuchsite tends to form in the same geological conditions as Gold and Rubies. In Gold deposits the hydrothermal solutions replace the carbonates. In metamorphic conditions the Fuchsite forms in close association with Rubies. Fuchsite is often sought as an indicator mineral for valuable Gold and Ruby deposits. Ruby Fuchsite is also often found in combination with Kyanite.

Fuchsite is named after Johann Nepomuk von Fuchs who was a famed 19th century minerologist. It was discovered in the early 1800’s. Sometimes referred to as the ‘Fairy Stone’ it is associated with wish fulfillment.
Rubies of course have been valued for millennia but finding Ruby in combination with materials like Zoisite or Fuchsite is a relatively recent event.
