What is Fuchsite?
Fuchsite is a form of Muscovite and part of the Mica family. Sometimes called Green Muscovite or Chrome Mica. It is the Chromium in the mineral that results in the green colouration. Fuchsite tends to form in the same geological conditions as Gold and Rubies. In Gold deposits the hydrothermal solutions replace the carbonates. In metamorphic conditions the Fuchsite forms in close association with Rubies. Fuchsite is often sought as an indicator mineral for valuable Gold and Ruby deposits.

Fuchsite is named after Johann Nepomuk von Fuchs who was a famed 19th century minerologist. It was discovered in the early 1800’s. Sometimes referred to as the ‘Fairy Stone’ it is associated with wish fulfillment.
