Desert Rose is commonly found in hot dry areas of the world for example the Sahara, Arabian Peninsular, Africa and the Mojave Desert. It forms naturally from the evaporation of seawater around grains of sand which the barite crystals or gypsum then grow around. The crystals blades form pretty rosette formations. According to one story the desert rose is the tears or blood of Cherokee Indians that turned to stone as they walked the trail of tears.
